The news is out: Arizona Wildcats senior wide receiver Juron Criner underwent an appendectomy on Monday, which explains his previously undisclosed injury that forced him to miss practice Tuesday and Wednesday.

Arizona spokesman Tom Duddleston tweeted that Criner is “Doing great. Hopes to be back for Pac-12 opener. Week to week.”

The Pac-12 opener is Sept. 17 at home against Stanford.

Coach Mike Stoops had maintained as late as Tuesday that Criner was going to travel for tonight’s game at Oklahoma State and that he had a chance to play. Stoops’ comments about injuries often have to be taken with a grain of salt, as he either tries to protect a player’s privacy and/or put out a misdirect for the opposing team.

WildcatSportsReport.com reported Wednesday that Criner was out, but not did divulge the nature of the illness.
