Mother of Arizona basketball player Kevin Parrom dies

by on Oct. 16, 2011, under Arizona basketball

The mother of Arizona Wildcats basketball player Kevin Parrom has died after fighting cancer for more than two years.

Parrom wrote this on his Twitter page Sunday night: “I Love You Momma! You Dont Have To Deal With No More Pain And Now You Can Watch Ya Baby Boy Make You Proud From Up Above. Love You Ma ! RIP”

Coach Sean Miller released a statement through the sports information office Sunday night:

“Today, Lisa Williams, Kevin Parrom’s mom, passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kevin and his family at this most difficult time.

“I have never been around a young person who has dealt with more hardship in such a short period of time than Kevin.

“I ask all Arizona Wildcat fans to join us on Saturday, October 22nd at 2pm at our annual Red Blue game to be there when we introduce Kevin Parrom as a part of our 2011-12 team.

“He will rely on all of us here in Tucson for support in moving forward.”

Parrom was home in the Bronx, N.Y., last month to visit his mother when he was shot Sept. 24 at his father’s apartment, sustaining injuries to his left hand and right leg. Parrom’s status for the season is up in the air as he rehabs the leg injury.

He also has had to deal with the recent death of a grandmother.

I have a very strong and easy feeling about how well Kevin Parrom will handle all of this adversity.  This might be a step by step progression, and it might take some to to develpoe, but I believe we a re looking at a Wildcat that will go down in History as one of the most devoted, beloved, determined, and successful young men Wildcats fans have ever had the pleasure of supporting.

There’s a long list of great character individuals in the program’s history, and this one is going to be very near or right at the very top of it before he’s through.

God bless you, and Bear down Kevin

No one is ever really prepared to handle death.  Life after losing a loved one is especially hard.  Something tells me, though, that KP, in time and with the support of his fans and teammates, with that signature focus, steadiness and determination, will come through just fine.  Thoughts and prayers your way, Mr. Parrom and family.
