Arizona Wildcats kicker John Bonano has been selected the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against UCLA.
Perhaps the Wildcats didn’t make the switch to Bonano — the team’s third place-kicker of the season — fast enough. OK, there is no “perhaps” about it.
Bonano took the drama out of extra point attempts, making all six of his tries. Arizona’s Jaime Salazar and Alex Zendejas had combined to go 13 of 18 on PATs. Bonano also hit a 41-yard field goal — Arizona’s longest of the season — and a 22-yard attempt.
Bonano, a senior who has been UA’s kickoff specialist for more than two seasons, hit three of his 10 kickoffs for touchbacks. He leads the Pac-12 with 19 touchbacks.
Bonano is the only Arizona player to be win a Pac-12 weekly honor this season.
