The Arizona Wildcats will wear the new Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms for its Feb. 25 game against UCLA, the final home game of the season.

Arizona is one of nine teams wearing the special unis this season, Nike announced Wednesday morning. Like the Cats, the other eight programs have won national championships wearing Nike gear.

They are Baylor (women’s), Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Syracuse, Connecticut (men’s and women’s) and North Carolina.

The teams will wear the Platinum edition uniforms in select games.

(I don’t much care about uniforms and styles and logos and all that, but my first impression on these: Don’t like the “Zona” across the front. “Arizona” will do just fine. I love the back, though.)

Arizona debuted its regular Nike Hyper Elite uniforms in late January last year.

From a press release:

Nike created the uniforms specifically for superior performance and lower environmental impact. The fabric of the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum shorts are made from 100 percent recycled polyester while the jersey fabric is made from at least 96% recycled polyester. Both short and jersey are tailored for the optimal efficiency of movement and are five percent lighter than the previous Nike Hyper Elite uniform. Featuring laser-cut bonded logos, a sharp platinum design as well as prominent accent colors, the Nike Hyper Elite Platinum uniforms are sure to shine on the court.

New warmups will honor each team's championship seasons.

What’s the point of having school colors if teams will toss their traditions to chase Nike’s money by letting Nike tell the school’s what their market research shows will sell in the stores? I’m an Arizona fan, not a Nike fan. I wear the Cardinal and Navy (Red and Blue to you uninitiated types).

I really don’t understand the outrage. What is the difference between a mostly white uniform and a mostly grey one? This new uniform has a lot more cardinal on it than the whites do and every time we wear all red I am sure you know how well that goes…
