Arizona Wildcats one win away from hosting baseball Super Regional

The Arizona Wildcats baseball team is in line to play host to next week’s Super Regional — if they can finish off their NCAA regional tonight or tomorrow.

St. John’s eliminated host North Carolina, the tournament’s No. 6 overall seed, on Sunday to win the Chapel Hill regional. The winner of that regional is matched up against the winner in Tucson.

With Arizona now being the highest-seeded team available in this part of the bracket, it would be right back at Hi Corbett next weekend for a best-of-three series against St. John’s. The Red Storm was seeded third in the Chapel Hill regional.

First, the Cats have to take care of business on the field. They will play Louisville, which eliminated Missouri 11-3 this afternoon. With a win, Arizona earns the regional title. With a loss, the teams will play again Monday night at 8 p.m. for the right to advance to the Super Regional.

The NCAA is expected to announce the dates, times and TV coverage for the Super Regionals late Monday. The best-of-three series will either be scheduled for Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday.

The eight Super Regional winners advance to the College World Series.
