Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez has his third quarterback for the Class of 2013 — Brandon Cox, a dual threat from Pasadena (Calif.) High who has been one of the Wildcats’ primary targets.
Cox committed to Arizona on Thursday after returning from a football camp at the University of Oregon.
“I decided it was the school for me,” Cox said WildcatSportsReport.com, one of TucsonCitizen.com’s sports partners. “There was no better time than now.”
Cox (6-2, 185) is rated three-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals.com and Scout.com.
He also held offers from Maryland, Iowa State, Utah State and New Mexico State, and he has said he was hearing from several Pac-12 schools when he decided to commit.
Cox completed 151 of 249 passes for 2,697 yards with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions as a junior, also rushing 96 times for 562 yards and eight scores. (Scroll down for junior year video highlights.)
The left-hander is considered the 16th-best dual-threat quarterback in the nation, according to Rivals.com. Another player committed to Arizona — Anu Solomon — is rated No. 8 among dual-threat quarterbacks.
The Cats also received a commitment Sunday from quarterback Tommy Woodson from Gateway High School in Monroeville, Pa.
On Wednesday, Arizona received a commitment from Calvin Allen, a defensive end from La Cueva High in Albuquerque, N.M. Allen (6-5, 225) is rated as the top recruit in New Mexico. The three-star recruit also had offers from Iowa State, New Mexico, San Diego State and New Mexico State.
The Cats’ recruiting class is now at 15, the most among Pac-12 schools at this point.
