If you were in Tucson nearly 25 years ago, you will have instant recall about the above video — “Wild About the Cats,” written by guard Harvey Mason.
It’s an unforgettable piece of nostalgia, bound to make you smile one way or another, from the Arizona Wildcats’ first 1988 Final Four basketball team, which will be honored Sunday at the McDonald’s Red-Blue Game at McKale Center.
Many players — including Steve Kerr, Sean Elliott, Matt Muehlebach, Tom Tolbert, Kenny Lofton, Anthony Cook and Jud Buechler — are scheduled to attend, along with coach Lute Olson.
“It was the team that put us on the map as a program,” Olson told former Tucson Citizen basketball writer Steve Rivera for a story on FoxSportsArizona.com. “It was just a great group of guys. Fans are going to love having them back.”
The game, which is sold out, is scheduled to begin at about 2 p.m. The 1998 squad will be introduced before the game and recognized at halftime.
The game will be streamed live for free at this link on Pac-12.com.
