Arizona Wildcats add walk-on to 2013 kicking competition

Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez has added competition at place-kicker for next season, as the Wildcats attempt to replace graduated John Bonano.

Bret Miller of San Clemente (Calif.) High School has accepted an offer to walk-on at Arizona, according to @SouthOCSports, the twitter page of the San Clemente Times, Dana Point Times and The Capistrano Dispatch sports sections.

Miller set the CIF-Southern Section record for consecutive extra points, surpassing the mark of 106.

Chris Sailer of the prestigious Chris Sailer Kicking camps and events wrote this about Miller after his junior season:

“Bret is an outstanding kicker. A good looking athlete with a strong leg. Makes kicks with great height and consistency off the ground. Has shown great improvement each time we’ve seen him. Bret proves time and time again he is one of the very best in the nation. A fine young man with a great attitude and work ethic. Huge future here! Outstanding D1 Prospect.”

Miller joins an Arizona kicking competition that includes Jake Smith, a transfer from Syracuse/Youngstown State who suffered a knee injury in fall camp and did not play in 2012 behind Bonano. Casey Skowron made the roster this season after walk-on tryouts. The Phoenix Brophy grad will be a sophomore.
