Arizona lost a recruit Tuesday when defensive lineman Tony Mekari de-committed from the Wildcats and pledged to attend Cal.
The news was first reported by Eric Sondheimer of the L.A. Times, via Twitter.
Mekari, from Westlake Village, Calif., is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals.com, and a two-star recruit by Scout.com. He flipped his commitment after taking an unofficial visit to Cal after taking his official visit to Arizona over the weekend, according to Scout.com.
Score one for new Bears coach Sonny Dykes, a former Arizona offensive coordinator.
Arizona has one other defensive tackle in its class — Luca Bruno from Oak Park, Calif. The Cats have commitments from two defensive ends — Calvin Allen from Albuquerque and Jack Banda from Loganville, Ga.
The Wildcats have 24 committed players in this class, plus two who are already enrolled. Junior college transfer quarterback Jesse Scroggins and freshman offensive lineman Logan Stott started classes last week.
Signing Day is Feb. 6.
Westlake defensive lineman Tony Mekari, previously committed to Arizona, has committed to California.
