Belmont reacts to facing the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament

by on Mar. 17, 2013, under Arizona basketball

Above is a video produced by The Tennessean, our Gannett partner in Nashville, home of the Belmont Bruins, who take on the Arizona Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.

As you can see in the video, that was one excited team when it saw its place in the bracket as an 11th seed opposite Arizona in the West region.

There are some brief interviews near the end of the video, including one with point guard Kerron Johnson, whose jumper with 1.2 seconds gave the Bruins a 70-68 overtime victory in the Ohio Valley Conference championship game, securing an automatic bid to the NCAAs.

“Arizona is a great team, but I feel that we match up well with them,” he said. “So, we’ll see. We’ll see.

“At the same time, none of those teams from the bigger conferences want to be that upset, so if we go in there expecting nothing less than their best, we’re going to leave out of there sad. We’ve got to come in and expect to play hard, expect a close game and let the chips fall where they may.”

The cats may finally be incensed enough to play a complete game with their coach being given a raw deal for his reaction to the rigged calls with UCLA.

If they up their three point defense, they can beat Belmont, but if they don’t take Belmont seriously, they will lose. I’d love to see the cats match up with UNM.

Guard play is key in March. Mark Lyons ball handling will be key, he’s been a turnover machine this year.
