Rodney Carr, a four-star athlete from Los Angeles Salesian High School, committed to the Arizona Wildcats during a visit to campus this weekend.
Carr is rated four stars by 247Sports, which pegs him as the 35th-best player in California. Rivals.com and Scout.com rate him as a three-star prospect.
Carr has primarily been a running back and cornerback in high school — Scout ranks him as the seventh-best cornerback in the West — and Arizona is interested in him on that side of the ball.
“We talked a lot about the defensive schemes they run,” Carr told WildcatSportsReport.com, one of TucsonCitizen’s sports partners.
“The things we talked about are corner and safety a lot on this trip and it seems like I’m going to be a good fit as a defensive player.”
Arizona is hoping this is just the start of something good from Salesian High. The Wildcats have offered scholarships to a pair of Carr’s teammates — four-star linebackers Jamardre Cobb and Marquis Ware.
Carr carried 51 times last season, averaging 9.9 yards per carry. He made 92 tackles, also intercepting one pass and returning a punt 87 yards.
Carr is the ninth player to commit to Arizona’s 2014 recruiting class. Here is a look at the class, with updated rankings for the three major recruiting websites:
