Defensive back from Oceanside picks the Arizona Wildcats

RELATED: Arizona adds defensive back for 2013 season

As was the case last year, Rich Rodriguez and the Arizona Wildcats coaching staff is having a busy June in recruiting.

The Cats added more than 10 commitments in June 2012, and they are up to six commitments this month with the addition Monday of defensive back Jace Whittaker from Oceanside (Calif.) High.

He also held scholarship offers from Boise State, Nevada, San Diego State and Washington State. The recruiting services seem to still be catching up to Whittaker, who is unranked by Scout and Rivals.

Whittaker projects as a defensive back, but he also is a slot receiver in high school, catching 29 passes for 497 yards last season.

Whittaker is the younger brother of San Diego State cornerback J.J. Whittaker. The older Whittaker had been committed to Arizona and coach Mike Stoops’ staff for several months before de-committing in January 2010.
