Arizona’s Aaron Gordon leads Team USA into second round at 19U championship

Arizona Wildcats incoming freshman forward Aaron Gordon leads Team USA in scoring through three games at the FIBA 19U World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic.

Gordon is averaging 13.7 points per game off the bench through the preliminary round of pool play, which featured three easy victories by the U.S. team. Competition resumes Monday with the second round, as Team USA takes on Brazil.

Gordon posted a double-double — 17 points and 11 rebounds in 17 minutes — against China on Friday. The 6-6 forward is averaging 6.0 rebounds, with seven assists and four steals. He is shooting 57.6 percent from the field (19 of 33), but just 42.9 percent from the line (3 of 7).

Team USA’s next-best scorers are each high school seniors-to-be who are Arizona recruiting targets. Justise Winslow, a 6-6 wing, is averaging 12.7 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds. Jahlil Okafur, a 6-10 center, is averaging 12.0 points.
