Arizona Wildcats baseball coach Andy Lopez, will undergo triple bypass heart surgery Monday at a local hospital, the school announced Friday night.
Lopez was in stable condition Friday night and, according to the news release, is expected to make a full recovery and be able to return to coaching. Lopez is 59.
The Wildcats are set to begin fall practice Monday.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Andy and his family,” athletic director Greg Byrne said in a statement.
“Thankfully the medical team caught it when they did and we expect Andy to make a full recovery. This is a great reminder for all us to be mindful of our health.”
Lopez, entering his 13th season at Arizona, has a 437-267-1 record with the Wildcats, highlighted by winning the 2012 College World Series.
Lopez, who also won the national title at Pepperdine in 1992, is 1,124-685-7 in 31 years as a college head coach.
