Arizona recruiting notes: Quarterback Brandon Dawkins still sizzling

Arizona Wildcats recruit Brandon Dawkins continued his hot hand Friday night, passing for six touchdowns to lead his Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian High team to victory.

Dawkins, who completed 22 of 37 passes for 386 yards, also ran for a touchdown in a 50-7 win over Agoura.

Dawkins has thrown 31 touchdown passes in seven games. He has at least five touchdown throws in five games this season. He is averaging 354.2 passing yards per game for Oaks Christian, which is 6-1 and coached by former Arizona assistant Jeff Woodruff.

Dawkins (6-3, 205) is listed as the nation’s 15th-best dual-threat quarterback by Rivals.com.

In other UA recruiting news:

– Four-star cornerback Naijiel Hale, who committed to Arizona in early July, took an official visit to Utah this week and witnessed the Utes’ upset of fifth-ranked Stanford. Hale is from St. John Bosco High in Bellflower, Calif.

Tony Ellison, a committed receiver/running back from Granite Bay (Calif.) High suffered a season-ending knee injury in his team’s fourth game of the season. He averaged 18.3 yards on nine catches and 8.5 yards on 46 rushes this season. He ran for nine scores.

Nick Wilson, a four-star running back from Central High in Fresno, Calif., has come back strong from a shoulder injury suffered in the season-opener. He missed the next two games but has ripped off scoring plays of at least 60 yards in each of the past three outings.

– Receiver Jalen Brown from Phoenix Mountain Pointe is expected to announce his college choice early this week. Arizona is among his five finalists, the others being Vanderbilt (the favorite, according to predictions on 247Sports), Oregon, Oregon State and Wisconsin. Brown is rated the third-best recruit in the state, according to the Arizona Republic.
