Lineman from Florida commits to Arizona

Many of the last pieces of the Arizona Wildcats’ 2014 recruiting class need to be linemen.

Coach Rich Rodriguez has an enviable collection of offensive skill players (including Saturday night commit Kaelin Deboskie and red-hot quarterback Brandon Dawkins), as well as plenty of talent in the back eight on defense.

On Sunday morning, the Wildcats received a commitment from a big guy — Levi Walton from Ida Baker High in Cape Coral, Fla.

Walton (6-4, 280) is rated only a two-star recruit by Rivals.com (an he’s not rated at all yet, but Scout.com and 247Sports), but he’s clearly an OKG — Our Kinda Guy — to the Arizona coaching staff.

Rodriguez and crew still have deep ties to Florida recruiting through their days at West Virginia, and they saw something early they liked in Walton, being the first to offer him a scholarship this spring. He committed before returning home from his official visit.

His primary Arizona recruiter was defensive line coach Bill Kirelawich.

Other scholarship offers for Walton were from Indiana, Ball State, Buffalo, Florida International, Furman and Charleston Southern, according to Scout.com.

The Wildcats are one of two finalists, along with Washington, for Peoria Centennial offensive lineman Layth Friekh. And they have an offer out to Sabino offensive lineman Andrew Mike.

Arizona has 26 commitments, one beyond the annual limit of 25, but at least a few of the prospects will enroll for the spring semester and count backward toward the team’s 2013 total.
